Mobile handset and consumer durables maker, Intex Technologies, is set to launch the world’s cheapest smart phone in India with a price tag of about Rs 2,000.
Keshav Bansal, Director (Marketing), said the company will be launching the phone by the end of this month.
Intex, which currently has a portfolio of 15 models of smart phones, sells about 13 lakh handsets a month, out of which 2.5 lakh are smart phones.
The company is aiming at a turnover of Rs 3,500 crore this fiscal (Rs 2,000 crore last year), out of which its mobile handset business is expected to fetch Rs 2,700 crore, with a push from its new smart phone models.
Sanjay Kalirona, Senior General Manager, said the new handset will have all the features of a smart phone, but will have a relatively smaller screen size and memory.
Intex competes with other domestic brands such as Micromax, Carbonn and Lava in the Indian mobile market.

The company today launched a new handset model, Aqua Style, roping in Tollywood actor Anushka Setty as brand ambassador.
Priced at Rs 6,990, the handset works on 3G network, with dual SIM, Bluetooth, SMS and email facilities.
Bansal said Intex will be spending Rs 180 crore on marketing, with focus on the southern states.
