As the country witnesses a spurt in digital payments, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is setting up an eight-acre campus in Hyderabad with an estimated cost of ₹300 crore.
The corporation has taken possession of the land and is engaged in talks with architects to prepare a blueprint for the campus.
Construction work will start in three months and is expected to be completed in two years. “We are going to bring in all of our operations in the country to Hyderabad. It will have about 3,000 people working in it in the next five years,” NPCI Chairman M Balachandran said.
He said the Hyderabad facility will have a world-class Data Centre. It would process all the electronic retail payments in a centralised mode of operation. “We presently have about 300 employees in Hyderabad and about 1,000 in all in the country. We will move them to Hyderabad and will have about 3,000 high-end tech employees in five years,” he said.
Cyber security Asked about the fake payment apps, he said one needsto be careful about transactions. “We need to be aware of the threats. We’re launching campaigns to increase security awareness among the users,” he said.
He said Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM), the common platform for making quick payment transactions using Unified Payments Interface (UPI), had been received very well. The NPCI’s app is now available both in Android and iOS platforms.
