Intex Technologies has launched its new range of DJ speakers, and has hinted at following this up with the introduction of a next generation wireless speaker range.

The diversified consumer electronics company, which has a market share of about 23 per cent in the country's speaker market of 7 million units per annum, is aiming at a share of over 30 per cent, following the roll-out of new products made at its manufacturing unit in Jammu.

Vinay Kapoor, In-Charge of its IT Products Division, said the company is targeting the youth looking for quality products at affordable cost. These DJ speakers are priced at Rs 13,999 and Rs 18,999, with tower speakers priced at Rs 14,200.

Speaking on the sidelines of the launch of a new range of speakers, Kapoor told BusinessLine the IT business accounts for sales of about Rs 500 crore of overall sales of Rs 6,000 crore. The speakers business accounts for about half of the IT products business. The IT business expects to record 10-15 per cent growth this fiscal.

“With the launch of the new range and the proposed introduction of a wireless range, we expect to take our market share up to about 30 per cent,” he said. Referring to the company new manufacturing facility coming up near Greater Noida, he said, “The plant is expected to be commissioned by the middle of next year. While initial production will focus on mobile handsets, it will gradually take up LED TVs, washing machines, refrigerators and air-conditioners in a phased manner.”

The Jammu plant, which has the capacity to manufacture 18 lakh units of speakers per annum, is supported by the company's R&D centre and sourcing centre based in China. The DJ speakers come with Bluetooth connectivity, USB port, SD card and built-in FM tuner, with auxiliary audio compatibility.
