Sony Pix today said it has signed a three-year deal with MGM Studios (Metro Goldwyn Mayer Studios), which will provide the English movie channel access to many Hollywood hits.
“With the deal, our viewers will be able to watch latest titles like ‘Skyfall’, ’The Hobbit’ and in future the remake of ‘Robocop’. In all, we will be able to expand our library by 50-60 films,” Saurabh Yagnik, Business Head, Sony Pix said.
He, however, declined to comment on the financials of the deal.
“In addition, we will also showcase all Bond titles and popular movies from MGM’s stable like the Rocky series, Terminator, Species, The Pink Panther and Conan the Destroyer,” he said.
Part of the Multi-Screen Media (MSM) Group (majority owned by Sony Pictures), Sony Pix competes with HBO and Star Movies.
Other MSM channels include Sony, Max, Sab, Sony Mix and Sony Six.
“Sony Pix is on a strong growth path and has been aggressively strengthening its library through investment in content. This association with MGM will significantly help the channel to operate in the top two slots in the genre,” Yagnik said.
The channel’s current movie library comprises Hollywood flicks like ‘Men in Black 3’, ‘The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn’, ‘Mission Impossible’, 2012, ‘Shrek’, ’Step Up 3’ and ‘Kung Fu Panda’
It also has exclusive deals with studios and distributors including Universal, Paramount, Lionsgate, Reliance Entertainment and PVR.
