After establishing leadership in the console gaming segment, Sony Computer Entertainment is going to expand the scope of the market by launching two products targeting the high-end and untapped economy segments.
The high-end PlayStation Vita or PS Vita, a portable device, has a touch option and is backed by ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore processor.
It will have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi options.
Released in a few pockets globally, it is slated to be launched by end of February or early in March in India along with Europe.
“Next week we are launching PSP portable in India targeting the mass market with a price tag of Rs 6,990,” Mr Atindriya Bose, Country Manager (PlayStation) of Sony Computer Entertainment, told Business Line over phone from Mumbai.
As part of countrywide roadshow ‘PlayStation Experience' campaign, Sony showcased a range of gaming devices here recently.
With regard to content, he said the company would launch motion control cricket game.
Developed in India, the game will also be launched in other cricket-loving countries such as the UK, Australia and the Gulf.
With an ownership base of 1.2 million PSPs, Sony claimed to have a market share of 80 per cent in this segment of gaming. It annually adds about four lakh units.
