The Labour Department of Telangana Government have called a group of employees of TCS for a conciliatory meeting with regard to their retrenchment by the IT major.
The former employees, who formed Welfare Association of IT Employees (WAIT), and representatives of Forum of IT Professionals (ForIT) met the Deputy Labour Commissioner Naresh Kumar here on Thursday.
The WAIT representative argued that they were retrenched illegally. “The Deputy Labour Commissioner acknowledged that IT doesn't have any exemption from the Industrial Disputes Act,” Kiran Chandra, a founding member of the ForIT, told Business Line.
The representatives alleged that some of them were asked to leave the very day of the notice being served. “Some of the employees were not given an opportunity to raise their concerns and were not given an audience when they wanted to raise their grievances,” an employee said.
