The Telecom Commission (TC) meeting to be held on Tuesday would discuss various issues including ease of doing business, in-flight connectivity, machine-to-machine communication, net neutrality and administrative allocation of spectrum.

If approved, the in-flight connectivity will pave the way for calling and internet service during air-travel to passengers. However, the detailing will be known only after the meeting on how exactly the government wants to take if forward.

The TC will also take up availing of E and V bands, which are capable of transmitting data at a higher speed (1000 megabit per second) and telecom equipment players and operators have been demanding for giving it for free to the government.

Both these bands cane be used as backhaul to connect mobile where fibre is not available and it is an important airwave for 5G.

Internet telephony

One of the important decisions to be tabled at the TC will also be the regulatory framework for Internet telephony, which will pave the way for subscribers to use voice over internet telephony (VoIP) by using another operator’s service. However, the government is unlikely to pave way for over the top players like Skype or other similar companies under this.

Apart from these, the Commission will also decide on complaint/ grievance redressal, in the telecom sector.
