Come June, Wipro employees can look forward to getting their annual salary hikes.

This is the first time the software services company has made its intention to raise salaries clear as early as in January, Saurabh Govil, Senior Vice-President, Human Resources, told Business Line .

While it did not share specifics on the kind of hikes it was planning, Wipro said the intention to raise pay signifies the kind of business visibility it sees for the 2015 fiscal.

This comes in the backdrop of India’s third largest software services exporter posting healthy net profit numbers, beating Street expectations. Last year, Wipro, along with TCS, gave out 8 per cent hikes across the board. Its annual net profit had grown 17 per cent.

Hiring plan Govil also gave an indication of the kind of hiring Wipro would carry out in the coming quarters. “We are looking at a mix of experienced people and freshers who have expertise as system architects and programme managers across different lines of business, such as retail, life-sciences and others,” he said.

The company, however, will not hire in large numbers as it did in the past as it is trying to break away from the old model, which requires more people additions, and is directly proportional to revenues.

Analysts were expecting wage increases, especially after the management of all the top three IT companies indicated improved demand this time compared with the same period last year.
