Half the turmeric on offer in Erode markets on Friday was unsold due to lack of demand. “Traders procured only 1,980 bags of turmeric against the arrival of 4,000 bags on Friday. Buyers quoted a higher price for the hybrid finger variety and procured all the 180 bags on offer,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.

The price of hybrid finger turmeric was raised by ₹300 a quintal and the local turmeric varieties fell ₹100-200 a quintal. In the Regulated Market Committee, prices fell by ₹200. At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, medium quality turmeric fetched ₹4,869 a quintal and the root variety was sold at ₹5,909, much lower than previous day’s price.

At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric fetched ₹4,064-6,219 a quintal, the root variety ₹4,032-6,009.

Salem Hybrid: The finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,700-7,069, the root variety at ₹5,589-6,249. Of the 772 bags that arrived, 225 were sold.

At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,366-6,131, the root variety at ₹5,291-6,129. Of the 1,110 bags on offer, 900 bags found takers.

At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,429-6,142, the root variety at ₹5,311-6,031. Of the 671 bags put up on sale, 605 bags were picked up.

At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹4,869-6,290, the root variety at ₹4,919-5,909. All the 396 bags placed for sale were traded.
