Tracking a weak trend in overseas markets, crude oil prices fell 0.44 per cent to Rs 5,290 per barrel at the futures trade today.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, crude oil for delivery in April declined Rs 22 or 0.44 per cent to Rs 5,290 per barrel with a business turnover of 6,731 lots. Likewise, May contract shed Rs 21 or 0.39 per cent to Rs 5,344 per barrel with a business turnover of 753 lots.

Marketmen attributed the decline in crude oil futures to a weak global trend on weak demand from the US.

Meanwhile, crude for May delivery declined 28 cents to $102.42 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
