Hybrid turmeric prices increased on Tuesday following the arrival of quality root variety.
“Buyers verified the hybrid variety, especially the root one and quoted higher price They purchased to fulfil upcountry demand. They also purchased hybrid finger, but quoted ₹100 a quintal lower than Monday. All the 600 bags of hybrid turmeric were sold, ” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
Of 5,100 bags that arrived for sale, 60 per cent was sold. Spot turmeric prices decreased by ₹200 a quintal and traders said that they have not received fresh orders.
At the Erode Turmeric merchants Association the finger turmeric was sold at ₹4,226 - 6489 a quintal, the root variety at ₹4,039 – 6,419.
Salem Hybrid The finger turmeric fetched ₹6,804 – 7,414. The root variety was sold at ₹5,391 – 6,550. Of the 637 bags that arrived, 312 were sold
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,516 – 6,500 a quintal, root variety was sold at ₹5,474 – 6,487. Of the 884 bags offered on sale, 721 were picked up.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,650 - ₹6,542, the root variety at ₹5,617 – 6,445. Of the 1075 bags put up for sale, 970 were traded.
