The Coonoor-based bought-leaf tea factory Homedale Tea Factory topped the entire auctions of The Coonoor Tea Trade Association at Sale No: 50 when its CTC Broken Orange Pekoe Leaf grade, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, was bought by Belmount Tea and Produce Co for ₹271 a kg.
At this price, it beat even the orthodox teas from corporate sector.
In the CTC Dust tea auction, Homedale’s Super Red Dust tea, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped at ₹223. No other CTC grade could enter the high-price bracket of ₹200/kg.
Among orthodox teas, Kodanad topped at ₹248 followed by Chamraj ₹239.
This was the penultimate auction for 2018 ahead of the market being closed for Christmas and New Year celebrations after next week’s sales.
In all, 86 per cent of the offer was sold when the producers reduced their asking price to an average of ₹98.47 a kg from previous week’s ₹102.08.
