The Commerce Ministry has extended the import restriction on peas ( Pisum sativum ) by a further three months up to September 30.
In the notification published on the DGFT website on Monday, it said the notification of April 25 restricting imports for the period from April 1 to June 30 has been extended.
Domestic purchase
The restriction on import of peas (Exim Code 0713 10 00) includes yellow peas, green peas, dun peas and kaspa peas.
According to trade sources, with imports being the main source of yellow peas, the prices had doubled to about ₹60-a-kg over the last three months after the import restriction. The move is aimed at supporting domestic purchase of chickpea, which is the natural substitute.
