Chana prices gained Rs 100 on Tuesday on renewed buying support from the stockists and millers. In spot, chana (kanta) prices rose to Rs 4,500-4,525 a quintal (Rs 4,450), while chana (desi) ruled at Rs 4,350.

Compared with last week, chana (kanta) is ruling Rs 200-250 lower in Indore mandis. Irrespective of demand and supply, it is speculators, who are regulating chana prices both in the future and physical markets, said a trader. However, according to traders, any major fall in chana prices from its current level appears unlikely in the coming days.Slack demand also dragged chana dal in local mandis in the past one week by almost Rs 200. Chana dal (average) ruled at Rs 5,400-5,425; chana dal (medium) at Rs 5,500-5,525; chana dal (bold) at Rs 5,775-5,800 against Rs 6,000-6,025 last week. Dollar chana was sluggish on weak buying support in the domestic market and rise in selling pressure.

In local mandis, dollar chana ruled steady at Rs 6,500-7,500 amid arrival of 1,800-2,000 bags. Dollar chana container prices in the past one week have also witnessed a sharp decline by Rs 300 a quintal on weak export demand.

In container, dollar chana (42/44 count) ruled at Rs 8,750; 44/46 count Rs 8,650; 46/48 count Rs 8,350; 58/60 count at Rs 6,350.
