The rupee closed stronger at 54.14 against the dollar on the back of strong inflows into the domestic equity markets.

The benchmark Sensex closed 215 points higher at 19,888.95 points.

The Indian unit opened a tad lower at 54.23 (previous close 54.18) on higher demand for the American unit from importers.

According to dealers, some dollar inflow over the next few days is likely to provide a degree of comfort to the Indian unit.

Intraday, the rupee moved between a high and low of 54.07 and 54.36, respectively.

Call rates, G-Sec

The interbank call money rates closed lower at 7.25 per cent from the previous close of 7.40 per cent.

The 8.15 per cent government security, which matures in 2022, closed a tad higher at Rs 102.61 from the previous close of Rs 102.57. Yields remained unchanged at 7.74 per cent.
