The rupee gained 6 paise to trade at Rs 52.89 against the dollar today on the Interbank Foreign Exchange as the US currency weakened in the overseas markets.

Dealers said dollar selling by exporters boosted the rupee sentiment.

The domestic unit had gained 26 paise to close at more than a week’s high of Rs 52.95/96 against the dollar yesterday following sustained dollar selling by exporters amid signs of fresh capital inflows.

Meanwhile, the 30-share BSE Sensex rose 70.88 points or 0.45 per cent to 15,953.52 in the opening trade today.
