The rupee opened higher at 54.25 against the dollar on the back of fund flows into the domestic equity markets and a stronger euro.

The euro strengthened to 1.29 against the American currency.

The Indian unit had closed at 54.37 on Wednesday.

A stake sale by Government in Steel Authority of India Ltd tomorrow can help the Indian unit to gain some strength.

The interbank call money rates opened flat from the previous close of 7.7 per cent.

The 8.15 per cent government security, which matures in 2022, opened lower at Rs 101.35 (7.94 per cent) from the previous close of Rs 101.44 (yield: 7.92).
