The rupee was trading strong at 66.77 in the evening session on increased dollar selling by banks and exporters.
According to forex dealers, besides strong foreign fund inflows, weakness of the dollar against other currencies overseas and a strong domestic equity market boosted the rupee value against the dollar.
The rupee edged up by 3 paise to 66.88 against the previous close of 66.91 at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market today. It hovered in a range of 66.89 and 66.74 before quoting at 66.77, up 14 paise at 4.40 pm local time.
Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE index surged 363.98 points or 1.31 per cent to 28,078.35 at the closing trade.
