Unlike others in the business, Chennai-based Mehta Jewellery has announced an offer that does not multiply the gold and diamonds you buy there. Instead, it offers graduates the services of a professional image influencer when their parents buy jewellery worth ₹20,000 or more from its Graduate Collection.

Speaking to BusinessLine , Naresh Mehta, Senior Partner, says many customers are keen to mark milestones in their children’s lives with some gift or the other, graduation topping everything achieved until then. Students on the threshold of a career can benefit from an image consultant, who will advise them on their appearance at interviews and at work.

The offer lasts until the first week of June. The jeweller has hired Kirithiga Selladurai, an independent image consultant, to work with its clients. .

Three-tiered consultation

Mehta Jewellery’s offer is categorised into three levels depending on the value of the purchase. At the basic level, there will be a half-day workshop on grooming oneself for an interview. The second level will be a full-day affair, which will also discuss body language, etiquette as well as culture sensitisation for students going abroad. The third level will include an individual session where body- and face-shape evaluation, personal shopping and styling advice will also be on the agenda, Selladurai said.

A new-age career

Selladurai has been in the business for five years. She is certified by the Image Consulting Business Institute (ICBI) in India and the Conselle Institute of Image Management, US. She has also trained as a soft-skills specialist. She has consulted for companies such as HCL and public-sector banks, and prepared students of IIM-Trichy and other institutions to attend interviews. In her own practice, Selladurai charges ₹15,000 for a basic package and ₹50,000 for five sittings and follow-ups for six months.
