The savage fall the markets witnessed has taken a toll on the auto sector with the auto index of the BSE scoring a perfect 10 with all the ten stocks down in the red.
The sharp drop in auto index was probably due to the decline in the prices of frontline stocks like Tata Motors, which has the highest weight in the index, M&M, Bajaj Auto, Hero MotoCorp and Maruti that cumulatively have about 85 per cent weight.
Tata Motors was down by Rs 17.50 to Rs 272.80. Maruti, Bajaj Auto and Hero MotoCorp were the biggest losers by value.
Maruti lost Rs 33.15 to trade at Rs 1,181.65 and Hero MotoCorp was down to Rs 1,854.75, a loss of Rs 38. Bajaj Auto shed Rs 32.10 to trade at Rs 1,576.90.
The loss of M&M was relatively less with the stock down by Rs 10.40 to Rs 647.
The auto index was down by 302 points followed by metal and bankex that were down by about 200 points each on the BSE.
