Buoyed by the stellar Q3 performance of Axis Bank and fired by expectations over the RBI review policy due next week, the Bank Nifty stocks were on a song today.
Bank Nifty recorded the highest gain among sectoral indices — moving up by more than 300 points at the close.
Axis Bank was the star performer, gaining Rs 62.95 to close at Rs 1,018. SBI moved up by Rs 52.70 to Rs 1,937.
ICICI Bank which closed at Rs 847 with a gain of Rs 49.80, BoB which was up by Rs 36.95 at Rs 779.90 and PNB which closed at Rs 948.50, a gain of Rs 36.75, were the other stocks to witness significant upward momentum today.
BoI which moved up by Rs 14.80 to Rs 321.10, Kotak Mahindra Bank (+ Rs 20.70 at Rs 495) and Canara Bank which closed at Rs 430.65, a gain of Rs 9.40, were the other bank stocks to make relatively modest gains.
Only HDFC Bank shed value, a mere Re 0.05 to close at Rs 486.75.
