Altogether 7,988 villages in Bihar having population of 2,000 or more have been integrated with banking services till January 2012, its Deputy Chief Minister, Mr Sushil Kumar Modi, said. The State has a total 9,213 villages with 2000 or more population, he told the Assembly in reply to a starred question by BJP MLA, Mr Amrendra Pratap Singh.
The banking services to the 7,988 villages have been through bank correspondents, he said, adding that 1,727 villages with a population of up to 5,000 have been identified for construction of banking branches with concrete structure.
