Chairing a special Sate-Level Bankers’ Committee meeting here on Thursday, he said banks in Tamil Nadu should speed up opening of branches and bank accounts in remote areas of the State as infrastructure in Tamil Nadu was relatively better.
According to a press release from the Press Information Bureau, in the next two months, the State Government will identify 10 districts of where business correspondents can be trained, with the help of banks, in actual banking activities so as to facilitate financial inclusion.
In order to have a better understanding, the State Government will, through some senior officers of the District Industries Centre, initiate a study of banks on granting loans of less than Rs 10 lakh to small and medium enterprises without collaterals in four districts of Tamil Nadu.
Besides, bankers would also support the State Government’s efforts in furthering agricultural insurance schemes, in six districts identified by the State. The Central Board of RBI met in the morning here and reviewed the current economic, global and domestic challenges as well as policy responses.
