State Bank of India may hike lending rates by 25-50 bps next week, its Chairman, Mr Pratip Chaudhuri, has said.
“Our asset liability committee will meet next week. So you can expect some transmission (monetary) next week or week after… perhaps 25-50 basis points,’’ he said.
He also hoped that the SBI’s rights issue will materialise in the third quarter of this fiscal or before end March 2012.
“We have presented various scenarios to the Government. It is up to the Government to decide whether it wants to retain 58 per cent in the bank or 55 per cent or 51 per cent. More dialogue has to be held with the Government,’’ Mr Chaudhuri told reporters on the sidelines of a board meeting here today.
