The Infusion Nurses Society (INS), India, an affiliate of the Infusion Nurses Society of the US, has launched its forum in Kerala.
This is the sixth INS forum in the country after those opened in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Bangalore.
Common platform
The Kerala Forum will provide nurses and related healthcare professionals a platform to exchange views on the latest knowhow about infusion therapy techniques, best practices and global infusion standards.
It would also seek to disseminate standards of practice, provide professional development opportunities and quality education programmes on infusion practices.
Speaking on the occasion, Latha R, Registrar, Kerala Nursing Council, said the body had taken several progressive initiatives to upgrade the standards of nursing education and training in the State.
Strong steps had already been taken to facilitate continuing education programmes for nurses as part of the renewal of registration.
Horizontal expertise
To mark the occasion, the Infusion Nurses Society organised a day-long workshop at the KIMS Hospital here in association with BD, a leading global medical technology company.
It featured educational sessions, case studies, hands-on simulation labs and a number of presentations from experts.
Jayant Giri, Treasurer of the Society, said infusion was a horizontal expertise each healthcare professional needed to master, and not just nursing professionals.
Infusion therapy was becoming complex and it was important for healthcare professionals to keep themselves abreast of current knowledge and skills.
More and more nurses must take part in appropriate learning and practice activities to develop and upgrade their competence, Giri added.
The Society will host its third national conference in Kochi on November 21 and 22 this year.
