Hyderabad got to play a role in the Karnataka drama as the newly-elected legislators of the Congress and Janata Dal (S) arriving in the Telangana capital in special buses.
With the Yeddyurappa Government withdrawing police security at Eaglelton resorts near Bengaluru, the two parties decided to shift their MLAs to Hyderabad to protect them from possible poaching by the Bharatiya Janata Party, which fell short of a simple majority to form the government.
As many as 78 MLAs of the Congress party and 37 JD (S) MLAs have been put up in the Taj Krishna and Novotel, respectively.
Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah held a meeting of the legislature party to discuss the party’s strategy for tomorrow’s Floor Test in the Assembly.
Congress leaders also held discussions with JD (S) leader HD Kumaraswamy on the strategy for tomorrow and on the shifting of the legislators back to Bengaluru.
The legislators will either take a flight or buses to go to Bengaluru when the house meets at 11 am on Saturday.
While the BJP won 104 seats, the Congress secured 78 and the JD(S) got 38 seats, resulting in a hung Assembly.
With the BJP falling short of the simple majority mark, the Congress and JD(S), which have formed a post-poll alliance, have expressed apprehensions that their MLAs may be poached by the BJP.
