Brought up in Kolkata, Late Rama Prasad Goenka or RPG as he was popularly known, was a voracious reader of Bengali novels, says noted Bengali author Mani Shankar Mukherjee.
Mukherjee, who writes under the pen name of ‘Shankar’, worked with RPG for nearly three decades ever since Goenka acquired Dunlop in 1984. Though Goenka later lost control of Dunlop, Shankar remained a close confidante.
“RPG always believed that a verbal promise carries more weight than a written one. A man is known by how well he keeps his word. It’s an advice that has been with me forever,” Shankar told presspersons this morning.
Meanwhile former CII president and city industrialist Rajiv Kaul said: “Its a big loss for all of us.”
