Prime Minister Narendra Modi today called a meeting with the Home and External Affairs Ministries and took stock of the situation on the abduction of 40 Indians in Iraq. After the meeting, the Government said the abduction of Indian nationals is a matter of high priority for it.
The Government assured that the Indians stranded in Iraq are safe and those wanting to come back will be helped out with the Indian community welfare fund.
The Government spokesperson said the Iraqi Government is amenable to allowing Indians to enter and exit from different cities in Iraq and is working with the Indian Government for their safety.
Since last night, India has stopped granting 'emiragration clearance not required' for workers going to Iraq for one month, the Spokesperson added.
