Babu Abraham Kallivayalil has been re-elected to the Central Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).
The Kochi based chartered accountant Babu Abraham Kallivayalil has been re-elected to the Central Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).
This is the first time a Keralite is elected to the national governing body for a fourth term. Babu will assume office at ICAI’s headquarters in New Delhi on February 12, said a press note issued here.
Deepa Varghese, another chartered accountant from Kochi, has been elected to the South India Regional Council (SIRC) of ICAI. She is the first woman from Kerala to secure this position in the regional council, which oversees the states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Puducherry.

ICAI, established by an Act of Parliament in 1949, is the regulatory body for auditing and accounting in India, with a membership of over 430,000 chartered accountants, making it the world’s largest institute of professional accountants. The Central Council comprises 32 elected members and 8 central government nominees.
Representing the Southern Region, Babu is joined by six other members: Sripriya K. and Rajendra Kumar P. (Tamil Nadu), Madhukar Narayan Hiregange (Bengaluru), Dayanivas Sharma and Mupala Sridhar (Hyderabad), and Prasanna Kumar D. (Visakhapatnam).
Kallivayalil is a member of the Public Sector Finance Management Committee of the Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants (CAPA), representing 33 professional bodies across 24 Asia-Pacific nations.
