One of the oldest Indian business tycoons, and founder of world's largest two-wheeler company, Hero MotoCorp, Brijmohan Lall Munjal passed away on Sunday.

“We regret to inform that the visionary Founder of the diversified Hero Group, Dr Brijmohan Lall Munjal, passed away here today at 7.05 pm. He was 92, the company said in a statement late night.

He was also the Chairman Emeritus of Hero MotoCorp. Munjal had stepped down from all his responsibilities in Hero MotoCorp in June.

Born in 1923, he was the first-generation entrepreneur, who led the Hero Group to a number of firsts. Under his leadership, Hero Cycles Ltd has been the World’s largest manufacturer of bicycles since 1986 and figures in the Guinness Book of World Records.  

Padma Bhushan, Munjal had also led the Hero Group to venture into other areas such as auto ancillary, financial services, renewable energy, education and electronics.  

From manufacturing bicycle components to Hero MotoCorp (formerly Hero Honda Motors), the company now has its footprint in   many countries world over.

Expressing deep sadness at the passing away of Munjal, Sumit Mazumder, President, CII, said, "He was one of the doyens of Indian industry and his passing away has left a void, which would be impossible to fill. Brijmohan Lall Ji was a father figure who gave us leadership and confidence in India." 

Munjal, a past President of CII (1988-89), was also the perfect people’s person and his down to earth approach would be sorely missed, he added.
