A fourth-generation member of the Burman family, promoters of Dabur Group, Pradip Burman is among the three named by the Government as black money account holders in an affidavit to the Supreme Court.

Legal account

However, the company rejected the charges. “We wish to state that this account was opened when he (Pradip Burman) was an NRI, and was legally allowed to open this account,” a Dabur India spokesperson said.

“We have followed all the laws and the complete details regarding the account have been voluntarily, and as per law, filed with the Income-Tax Department, and appropriate taxes paid, wherever applicable. Therefore, it is unfortunate that every person having a foreign bank account is being painted with the same brush.”

The Burman family is committed to the highest standards of corporate governance, and encourage ethical behaviour at all levels, a company statement said.

MIT alumnus

An alumnus of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, US, from where he graduated with a B.Sc in Mechanical Engineering, Burman does not currently hold any executive position in Dabur. In the past, he held several positions in Dabur India and also held the position as Director on the company’s board.

Burman is currently involved with several ventures. He is the Chairman of Sanat Products, which is involved in manufacturing Spirulina and other nutraceutical products. He is also the Chairman of animal care products company Ayurvet Ltd.

He is also the founder Chairman of an NGO called Sundesh, which is involved with the education and vocational training of rural women.
