The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) on Sunday said that commercial markets in Delhi will remain open.
The traders body was earlier mulling closure of markets in the capital city amid rising number of Covid-19 cases. “The commercial markets in Delhi shall remain open after the direct intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and aggressive steps announced by Home Minister Amit Shah after holding a meeting with Delhi LG Shri Anil Baijal and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal ,” it said in a statement.
However, it added that local traders association will take decisions regarding opening of their respective markets on odd-even days basis or decide to close shops on certain days of the week.
CAIT held a video conference with Delhi trade leaders which was attended by about 275 trade leaders on Sunday.
CAIT Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal said, “At the meeting of trade leaders, it has been decided that the since each market has different dynamics in terms of wholesale or retail and customer flow is different for each market, the social distancing norms vary from market to market and based on their own perception and number of covid positive cases, individual markets may take their decision in the best interest of the traders and customers of Delhi.”
He added while trade associations have decided to close some markets completely till June 30, others have decided to open shops on alternate days, while other markets want to operate for four days in a week.
