Danfoss, which is involved in the manufacture of technology and products in the energy area, has signed a co-operative agreement with PSG College of Technology here.
As part of this agreement, Danfoss India will establish a centre of excellence at the college to enable PSG students have access to Danfoss products for real-time experience, said Ravichandran Purushotaman, President, Danfoss India.
The focus area for the centre would be ‘climate and energy,’ he said.
“We recently signed an agreement with the Tamil Nadu Government by investing around $100 million in an integrated campus in Oragadam, an industrial area located on the outskirts of Chennai. A pivotal part of this strategy is to build a combined manufacturing, R&D and sales campus over the next three years that will serve as Danfoss India’s future headquarters. We expect to move to this campus by mid 2014,” he said.
The company is looking to employ 1,200 persons in this campus of which 50 per cent would be for research and development. “We need to do a lot of engagement with universities for this,” Purushotaman said.
Danfoss is expecting the country’s burgeoning urbanisation and the influx of people to cities to drive the demand for its products. “As people move to the cities, demand for power and energy will grow. The same goes for ventilation, air conditioning and a more efficient cold chain infrastructure to keep food fresh during transport and storage. This will fuel growth for Danfoss in areas such as industrial refrigeration, frequency converters and products related to solar and wind power.”
