The Mudra Institute of Communications (MICA), Ahmedabad, will start a new post-graduate programme in digital communication management from the ensuing academic year.

“A brand new specialisation in digital communication management will commence from the new academic year,” MICA President and Director Nagesh Rao said.

He was speaking to presspersons on the sidelines of the 18th convocation of MICA, which was set up in 1991.

As many as 161 students were awarded diploma certificates for its post-graduate programme in management (communications).

“While we have a batch strength of 161 for other programmes, we have not finalised the intake for the new programme. It depends on the quality of students. If we get 150 quality students, we may go with it,” Rao told presspersons.

He said the impact of digital media is evident in today’s rapidly changing world and there isn’t much talent in this field. The programme is being started to nurture emerging talent in digital communication, he said.

He said though the institute’s governing council met today, it did not discuss the issue of fee hike, adding that there has been a hike in funds for research.

Earlier, delivering the convocation address, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Hindustan Unilever Nitin Paranjpe, who was the chief guest, urged students to create a new business model focusing on innovation.

Stating that people have lost trust in business models because of their self-serving nature, he said, “It is important to take steps to save business. You must create a new business model focusing on innovation”.

He asked students to develop sustainable business models, which decouples from resources and re-couples with the social good.
