Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal, will start pre-cast design and engineering course from the next academic session.
A press statement said here on Monday that came a memorandum of understanding was signed between the UAE-based Faizal and Shabana Foundation and Manipal University in Dubai on Friday.
The foundation will invest ₹5 crore towards research and development facility for pre-cast concrete technology.
“Manipal University will set up a lab for this new pre-cast design and engineering course which will be part of B Tech (civil) and B Arch in the university’s curriculum,” GK Prabhu, registrar of the university, said. The new course would teach how to construct huge buildings in a few months with pre-cast material, he said.
While the research and development centre will be set up by the foundation, the expertise will be given to the university through collaboration with Finland’s Lahti University of Applied Sciences.
