The affordability of the course and the opportunity it provides has made chartered accountancy course a popular one, according to K Raghu, former president of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).
Inaugurating a national conclave for the students pursuing CA course, organised by the Mangaluru branch of ICAI on Tuesday, he said that there are a lot of opportunities for CAs both within the country and outside.
Apart from manufacturing, banking, insurance and financial services sectors, CAs are also in demand in information technology, infrastructure, and retail sectors.
He said that CA course is affordable to all sections of society when compared to other professional courses such as engineering and medicine. Those CAs, who venture out of the country, get three times the salary they get here.
Raghu had a few words of advice for students to excel in their CA course. He said that students need to prepare from the study material given to them and not from the tuition notes. It is not adequate, if students rely entirely on tuition notes.
The cloud campus initiative of the ICAI has helped students to get video lectures of best faculties from the country online.
Urging the students to be passionate about their course, he said they need to be hardworking to pass the CA examination.
Raghu said that ICAI is planning to introduce a new syllabus for the students. ICAI, which took the initiative in this regard last year, is receiving feedback for the proposal. The new syllabus will have subjects such as IFRS. Technical training and personality development will also be part of this syllabus.
He hoped that ICAI will be able to introduce new CA syllabus by November 2016.
