The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT-H) will launch three all-course M.Tech. programmes in Biomedical, Chemical and Material Science Engineering next month.

The courses will offer a flexible structure to cater to students with a research bent of mind. Students can choose to graduate in three semesters or they could choose to do a full thesis for 14 months, which is similar to the regular two-year M.Tech programme. Candidates will be selected through an initial shortlisting, followed by a written test and (or) interview.

The deadline for submitting applications for the new courses is July 21. The civil, mechanical and electrical departments are also accepting applications. “We introduced the concept of the All Course M.Tech last year in three specialisations - civil, electrical and mechanical engineering. After getting a good feedback, we have decided to add three more specialisations this year,” U. B. Desai, Director of IIT (H), has said.

“The All Course Programme is not a short-cut to an IIT degree. Besides taking the normal course load, the students will have to take extra courses in place of the research work done in the second year of the regular two-year M.Tech. Programme,” he said in a press release.

“The course rigour will be the same and will have the depth of IIT courses and breadth for skill and practice,” he said. The students will not be entitled to any fellowships as GATE qualification is not mandatory. On successful completion of the programme, the student will receive an M.Tech. degree.
