An MBA is a terminal degree and soon as a student enters their professional life, the race to learn has just started.

“You will all be out of your schooling experience and be in a race to understand life. Curiosity, commitment and humility will determine your success,” said Nirmalya Kumar, Member, Group Executive Council, Tata Sons, while addressing the 16th convocation of IIM Indore on Saturday, which saw 639 students of various programmes graduate.

Competitive life In his address, Kumar appreciated the efforts made by the graduating batches to enter and successfully complete the programme. He advised the students to celebrate their graduation day but get ready for the competitive race ahead. He noted that people are judged on the basis of their performance in the next race as past achievements soon become accepted qualities.

Citing examples of Indian movies, media and habits, Kumar said that India is too internally focused; Indians must be thoroughly aware of what’s happening around the world. “You can operate only in India but one needs to be globally competitive.”

He also advised the students to contribute their bit in making India global, adding that India needs more global brands. 

Merits awarded During the Convocation, 14 FPM participants received the title of Fellow of IIM Indore. About 455 participants of PGP, 48 participants of PGP-UAE, and 55 participants of PGP-Mumbai received the Post Graduate Diploma in Management.

Additionally, 47 participants of EPGP and 20 participants of PGPMX-Mumbai received the Executive Post Graduate Diploma in Management.  

KV Kamath, Chairman, IIM Indore, in his address observed that India is a land of opportunities and there cannot be a better time to be born here.

The graduating batches should look forward to unprecedented growth in their careers, he said.

Rishikesha T Krishnan, Director, IIM Indore, in his address, highlighted the major achievements of the Institute in the academic year 2014-15.

He advised the students to excel in whatever field they commit themselves to and stay devoted to it.

He also encouraged the students to be honest and maintain their dignity throughout their life and also to treat everybody with the same dignity and respect, irrespective of any discrepancies.
