The Congress in Tamil Nadu will hold a State-wide token fast to press for a ban on liquor. The State Congress committee will hold a one-day token fast in all the districts. With all opposition parties in the State rallying against the functioning of liquor shops, the party has urged the AIADMK government to impose total prohibition in the State.

John Kerry will be on his way to Havana today. The US Secretary of State will raise the American flag over the US embassy in communist Cuba. Kerry’s historic trip will mark the first visit by a US secretary of state to the island since 1945. The US and Cuba restored diplomatic relations in July.

The NSCN (IM), the Naga nationalist group, may today spell out to its cadre the contours of the crucial peace pact it inked recently with the Centre, during Independence Day celebrations. The army, as well as other north-eastern States, have sought details of the pact and its possible implications.

Radhe Maa, the self-styled godwoman, will be questioned today by Mumbai Police for her alleged involvement in a dowry harassment case. The police on Sunday served summons on her after registering an FIR against her and others.

Pakistan will mark its Independence Day today with a display of fireworks during the night at parade ground near Faizabad. The main I-Day ceremony will be held at the Convention Centre where Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will hoist the national flag during the ceremony.
