A fresh round of heavy rains signalling the emerging wet spell will hit Tamil Nadu-Puducherry-coastal Andhra Pradesh from Friday.
But India Met Department has extended by a day to Friday the watch for a new low-pressure over the South Andaman Sea.
Latest forecast outlook by India Met Department is as follows:
Tomorrow (Thursday): No weather warning.
Friday: Heavy rain at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Saturday: Heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts while being heavy over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Sunday: Heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts while being heavy over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Meanwhile, the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts now suspects that the system may undergo intensification on nearing the coast of Tamil Nadu and change course. This would mean that it would not cross the Tamil Nadu coast and instead track along the waters off the Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts towards Gangetic West Bengal.
The US Climate Prediction Centre seemed to agree with the prospect of a detour of the likely depression, but weather watchers are of the view that this needs to be validated on a day to day basis.
