Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are on ‘high alert’ in the wake of concerns over Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) and are monitoring the situation. There are no cases reported in the Telugu States so far.
According to according to C Damodar Rajanarasimha, Telangana Minister for Health, there is `no need of any worry’ over the virus threat, and the State government `continously reviews the situation in the country, as well as in other states and the official machinery is prepared to tackle `any situation’
The Minister also cautioned the general public to be wary of any `rumours’ on the social media and warned of strict action on those who spread baseless rumours on the social media.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu reviewed the situation in a teleconference with the higher officials and directed them to take all precautionary measures.
All the virology labs in the States should be ready to meet any situation with adequate numbers of testing kits to face any eventuality, the Chief Minister said.
The officials informed Naidu about the availability of over 18 lakh masks in the state and nearly 4 lakh personal protective equipment (PPE) kits and other essential medicines.
