The Indian Air Force pressed into service an IL-76 aircraft carrying an unspecified quantity of drinking water to Maldives in response to a request by the island nation.
The Government of Maldives had contacted New Delhi with the request, sources said, which was conveyed to the Union Ministry of Defence.
The Ministry in turn instructed the Air Force base in Thiruvananthapuram to comply with the request. The aircraft took off to Maldives around 1 pm on Friday.
