India will not be affected by the powerful undersea quake that struck Japan today, a tsunami warning centre here said today.
“India will not have any effect,” sources in the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) said.
A one metre-high tsunami hit northeast Japan today, after a powerful 7.3-magnitude undersea quake struck off the coast which was devastated in last year’s quake-tsunami disaster.
The wave swept ashore at just after 6 pm in Ishinomaki, a city badly hit by the 2011 tsunami that wrecked a large swathe of the northeast coast, killing thousands.
INCOIS provides ocean information and advisory services to the industry, Government and scientific community and society at large.
