A moderate earthquake jolted Meghalaya early today, but there was no report of loss of life or damage to property.
Officials at the Regional Seismological Centre here said the tremor, with its epicentre in Assam’s Kokrajhar district, was also felt in other North-Eastern states.
Assam and all states in the North East are categorised under Zone-V in the country’s Seismological Map, they said.
An earthquake of moderate intensity of 5.6 on the Richter Scale rocked Assam, including its capital Guwahati, at 6.35 am today.
