Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar on Tuesday launched the National Digital Library to provide a platform for schools, universities, teachers, students and anyone who has a curiosity to learn.
Addressing the media here, Javadekar said, “The National Digital Library would become a single-window platform for all the educational needs. It will have 1,70,00,000 books in 200 languages.”
There are around 11 lakh government schools in India. Javadekar said all those schools would be given library grant between ₹5,000 and ₹20,000 every year, depending on their size. The platform will also be helpful for those who are planning to do research, prepare for competitive exams and also those who just want to attain knowledge.
“So far, 35 lakh users have registered for it but our aim is that in a year’s time the number goes up to 3 crore,” said Javadekar.
Users can register for the National Digital Library for free from the Google Playstore.
