The Kochi police are said to be considering denying permission to the November 2 ‘Kiss of Love’ protest planned by a Facebook community here against the Yuva Morcha’s moral policing at Kozhikode.
Though the police have not yet rejected permission for the impromptu mass-kissing protest, to be held at Marine Drive here, police sources said the authorities might be prompted to do so in view of the ‘possibility of law-and-order disturbances.’
A Facebook community has called for a flash-mob-like ‘Kiss of Love’ protest where people can kiss each other freely under public glare as a way of protest against the attack on a restaurant in Kozhikode last week.
A young couple had allegedly engaged in kissing at the restaurant. A group of activists of Yuva Morcha, the youth brigade of BJP, attacked and caused extensive damage to the restaurant, alleging that it was promoting ‘immoral activities.’ The attacks, said to be in line with the notorious moral policing by Sri Ram Sene in Karnataka and Maharashtra, drew flaks across Kerala.
The proposed ‘Kiss of Love’ event has received wide online support and thousands of people have offered to take part. Several cultural activists have also supported the event.
On Wednesday, a group of youngsters, who allegedly attempted a ‘promo’ of the proposed event here, was chased away by bystanders.
