Andhra Pradesh, which has a hydel generation capacity of 3,829 MW, is planning to add 410 MW in two years by adding additional units at Nagarjunasagar, Pulichintala and Lower Jurala.
Additional units
The first unit of Lower Jurala with a capacity of 80 MW is likely to be commissioned in two months.
The second and third units (80 MW each) will be ready by July, 2014.
Time-frame
The 50-MW Nagarjuna Sagar tail pond unit and the 120-MW Pulichintala are expected to be completed during the financial year 2014-2015, according to M. Sahoo, State Principal Secretary (Energy).
Meet on scope
Top officials of APTransco (Transmission company) and Genco (generation company) discussed the scope for increasing hydel power generation keeping in view the bountiful inflows from Krishna-Godavari basins in the last few weeks, a Government release said here on Sunday.
Suresh Chanda, Chairman and Managing Director of Transco, K. Vijayanand, Managing Director of Genco, and A. Adhiseshu, Director (Hydel), have participated in the discussion.
Sahoo, who is also the Chairman of Genco, said that the State made a good beginning with regard to hydel power generation in the season, significantly reducing pressure on thermal units.
Rise in hydel power gen
“Significant inflows into reservoirs helped us generate 1,016 mill units this financial year as against 633 MU in the same period last year, showing an increase of 383 MU or 60.4 per cent,” he said.
The Srisailam plant is able to generate 700 MW as against its full capacity of 770 MW.
The reservoir level at Srisailam has crossed 855 feet.
“If this trend of inflows continues, we hope to meet the hydel generation target of 6,755 MU for 2013-14,” he said here in a statement.
