Industry body Assocham today sought an appointment with West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee to try to convince her government to support FDI in multi-brand retail.
An Assocham delegation led by its Secretary General, D S Rawat met the Chief Secretary, Sanjay Mitra to seek an appointment with the Chief Minister at her convenience.
“We have urged all state governments not to mix political and economic issues,” Rawat said.
He said that he was writing to all Chief Ministers for their support.
Rawat said that Assocham would develop agro-based clusters in North 24-Parganas and Murshidabad districts.
Assocham was also keen on developing 42 clusters in the state under 12th Plan period to boost the SME sector, Rawat added.
