BJP will rake up Vadra land deal in Haryana poll campaign

The BJP will rake up the alleged land deal by Robert Vadra, son-in-law of Congress President Sonia Gandhi, in the Haryana Assembly election campaign.

The party claimed here on Tuesday that it has more evidence to prove collusion between the Bhupinder Singh Hooda Government and Vadra. The Congress, however, criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for “misleading” the Election Commission (EC) and the voters of Haryana.

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said approval for the land deal is a “parting gift” to the Gandhi family by the Haryana Government, and questioned the hasty clearance of the deal ahead of the elections.

The BJP has already started using the issue in its poll campaign.

Modi said in a rally in Haryana on Monday that the EC should take cognisance of the action of the Hooda Government and treat it as a violation of the model code of conduct.

“The Hooda Government knows that after the elections, the son-in-law will not get any clearances for illegal deals. So, in between the election process, they have dared to take such a decision. I think Hooda was pressured from the top to take such a decision,” he said.

The Congress retorted by saying that the Prime Minister is “behaving like a habitual liar”.

“According to a news report, the alleged land clearance happened on July 16. The model code of conduct came in place on September 12. How can this be a violation of the code?

“The Prime Minister is behaving like a habitual liar. Such actions give no glory to the post of the Prime Minister. He is trying to mislead the voters of Haryana and the EC,” Congress general secretary Shakeel Ahmed said.

Quoting a Supreme Court direction, Ahmed reminded the BJP that a public interest litigation against the deal was rejected by the court.
