Two doctors, including the Dental Council of India member Dr R Gunaseelan, were removed today from government memberships following their arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with a bribery case.

The state government issued orders withdrawing the nomination of Dr Gunaseelan as member of Dental Council of India.

“The Governor of Tamil Nadu hereby withdraws the nomination of Dr R Gunaseelan, Medical Director, Rajan Dental Institute, as a member in the Dental Council of India, representing the State of Tamil Nadu, with immediate effect,” an official order issued by the Health and Family Welfare Department said.

In different orders issued by the department, Gunaseelan and another accused, Dr S Murugesan were stripped of their membership from Tamil Nadu Dental Council “with immediate effect”.

Gunaseelan was arrested by the CBI for allegedly demanding a bribe for granting permission to private colleges to run various courses. The agency had on Friday claimed to have recovered Rs 75 lakh from him.

The investigating agency on January 7 had arrested Murugesan for allegedly demanding Rs one crore as bribe and accepting Rs 25 lakh as advance for granting approval for a post-graduate course by the college.

Three functionaries of the Melmaruvathur-based Adhiparasakthi Dental College and Hospital were also arrested for allegedly offering the illegal gratification.
